Table Tennis: Thornbury enjoy historic season

THORNBURY A are celebrating after winning the Bristol and District Premier Division for the first time in the club’s history, beating runners-up Filton Academy by four points.
The squad comprised captain Martin Gunn, William Dawe, Tony Clarkson and Matt Squires.
They also reached the semi-final of Bristol’s Belston Cup, eventually losing in the final set of a close match against Knowle and Brislington.
Thornbury B players Ian Maggs (club captain) and Harry Gwilliam won the Bristol Division One Doubles title.
Young Star Tom Lewis, who is a pupil at The Castle School, was presented with the Most Improved Junior Player award by the Stroud and District league in his debut season.
Thornbury continue to meet every Monday (excluding Bank Holidays) and Wednesdays at The Castle School’s sports hall. All ages and abilities welcomed.
