STEVEN Crowcombe of Cam Mills will represent Gloucestershire at the National Junior Singles at Leamington Spa after reaching the County final.

In his first match at Barnwood BC last weekend, Crowcombe had a terrific tussle with Ross Guy (Gloucester Spa) that lasted two hours and 23 ends.

After Guy took a six-shot lead after four ends it was all square after eight ends.

Crowcombe then held a narrow one-shot lead, 11-10, after 14 ends and by the 21st end the scores were back level at 18-18.

The win for Crowcombe came with three shots in two ends to reach the semis with a 21-18 triumph.

The semi-final produced another nail biting finish when Crowcombe went up against Max Clarke (GB Britton).

Crowcombe strode into a 7-1 lead after just six ends.

By the 11th end the score was 13-5 and as the nerves set in Clarke rattled up 10 shots to pull level after 19 ends at 15-15 and then take the lead with a four. Crowcombe, keeping his composure, hit back with a three, a two and a single to clinch a place in the final with a 21-19 win.

Crowcombe will face Nathan Kitchen (Cheltenham) on 27 July at Olveston BC.
