AS PART of the ECB’s National Cricket Week and the Chance to Shine’ programme, Old Down held their second Kwik Cricket Festival.

One-hundred-and-fifty pupils from St Mary's Primary, St Peter’s Primary, Olveston Primary and Crossways Junior schools participated.

The results of the 15 teams involved were averaged out for each school and the winning school was Olveston.

St Mary’s were also awarded the ‘Spirit of Cricket’ cup for their positive attitude to coaching, learning and sporting behaviour.

Sam Gould, the Old Down chairman said: “ This has been a great event for our cricket club. It’s fantastic to see so many children experiencing and enjoying playing cricket.

"The Chance to Shine initiative has provided a big boost for our junior cricket at Old Down and at all the schools involved.”

The organiser, John Peplow, said: “ Everyone had a really good day, the pupils were a credit to their schools in both their behaviour and sporting manner in which they played cricket.

Thanks must also be given to the Old Down coaches and Gloucestershire Cricket Board staff and coaches who have worked hard to develop skills and knowledge of cricket during the past three months in these schools.

"I would also like to say a big thank you to the Filton College Cricket Academy students who provided umpires for the festival.”
