CHIPPING Sodbury seconds recorded a 21-run triumph that kept Jerry Swatton’s side top of WEPL Glos/Wilts 2nd XI table.

James Newman, at number seven, top scored with a crucial unbeaten 53 for the visitors, whose total of 235-8 included 50 extras.

There were then three wickets apiece for Lee Walters and James Hicks as well as two apiece for Jay Penfold and Jarrod Campling as Rockhamptn’s reply fizzled out.

Sodbury thirds came up just short away to Stothert and Pitt in Division Four of the Globe Sports Bristol and District League, slipping by two wickets, but they still remain top of the table.

Skipper Chris Young (34) was the only batsman to establish himself at the crease as the visitors battled to 134 after winning the toss.

Stotherts then nibbled away at their target and got over the line despite Jake Havard taking 3-11 from four overs.

Sodbury fourths marched on with a 172-run defeat of their YMCA counterparts in Division Ten.

Damien Frodsham (127) and Jeff Long (81) shared an opening stand of 210 in an imposing total of 281-6 before the visitors were rushed out for 109 by Steve Clapp (3-30), Nick Tippins (2-9) and Steve Febry (2-7).

The fifths were also in fine form with a huge win against Portishead thirds, teenager Charlie Ross smashing 155 in a superb total of 342-5.

In reply, the home side were skittled for only 74 as Sodbury extended their lead at the top of Division 11.

On Saturday, Sodbury’s firsts will bid to bounce back from their defeat against Rockhampton away to Biddestone, while the seconds are home to the Wiltshire villagers.

Sodbury thirds are away to Alveston in Division Four of the Bristol and District League, the fourths entertain St Mary Redcliffe thirds and the fifths host Alveston seconds.
