IN A pulsating tie against Herefordshire, Gloucestershire booked their place in the Regional Finals to be held at Cotswold BC on July 13 when they won by two shots at Falcon BC.

The match ended in a grandstand finish as Gloucestershire held the upper hand until the last three ends when Herefordshire clawed back from being 37-28 down to be within a whisker of going through.

Val Molton (Kingswood & Hanham), Sue Latham (Olveston), Sue Osborne (Kingwood & Hanham) and Joy Sheward (Cheltenham Whaddon) found themselves leading by a shot at halfway 9-8 before opening up a four shot lead at 14-10.

A haul of six shots over the next three ends extended the lead to eight shots before their opponents hit them hard by picking up seven shots without reply that saw a nail biting 20-19 win.

The rink of Iona Bird (Caer Glow), Chris Prosser (Gloucester Spa), Jacky Howes (Stroud) and Lindsay Collin (Page Ladies) held a 9-6 lead after 10 ends and then over the next five ends pulled away to lead 15-8.

Over the next three ends they scored just two shots as their opponents roared back grabbing eight shots to close the gap to a single shot 17-16. In the final run in they held out to grab a dramatic 21-20 win.
