DODGING the showers, Kingswood enjoyed some outstanding cricket on their Devon tour.

A Friday evening Twenty20 at Teignmouth against Shaldon Optimists featured brisk 50s from Kingswood openers Ed Holcombe (56) and Ben Foxwell (65) in a total of 164-4, just enough to defend against the hosts' 150-6.

With the Saturday game at Stokeinteignhead rained off, the one at Kentisbeare broke several records.

Kingswood conceded their highest ever total, 365-5, including 14 sixes and 46 fours, off 40 overs with two opponents, Tom Bunker and Rory Thomas, retiring on centuries.

Some Kingswood bowlers, following a sleepless Saturday night, alternated with one-over spells, which generally proved too long.

Only 15-year-old Michael Barnes (2-30) had any effect.

Kingswood's batting was on a par with its bowling.

Apart from Ed Holcombe's 41 there seemed little to prevent a 200-run defeat.

With the score on 172-9 and 21-year-old Rory Thomas on a patient 47, doom was in the air with the arrival of 71-year-old number 11 Rod Alexander.

At that point Thomas exploded. In the next 46 balls he hit another 89 (80 in boundaries).

His first ever century (136), of which 118 came in boundaries, helped Kingswood finish with 262 after a ten-over, 90-run record tenth wicket partnership, of which he scored 89.

Though Kingswood lost a 627-run game (another record) heavily by 103 runs, the game will be remembered for Thomas' amazing innings.
