A TALENTED rower from Dursley will compete at the Henley Royal Regatta this weekend.

James Bird is part of the first Gloucester-Hartpury boys crew to qualify for the prestigious event.

The under-18s quad scull of former Rednock School pupil Bird, Will Kemp, Jack Williams and Joe Barnes produced a great row in the qualification time trial in the Marlow Regatta at Dorney Lake last weekend, placing third before finishing fourth in the A Final in a tight finish with Grange School.

Following this result, the crew were notified that they had received an automatic qualification place for the Henley Royal Regatta.
