FORMER England international Andy Caddick sent Thornbury crashing to defeat at Clevedon in Premier Two of the West of England Premier League.

Caddick, who took 234 wickets in 62 Test matches, finished up with six wicket as Thornbury were bowled out for 152 in a 76-run defeat.

He caused all sorts of problems for the Thornbury batsmen, removing six of the top seven, before captain Richard Trotman came in at number nine and smashed a counter-attacking 68 off 65 balls.

Thornbury's bowling attack was boosted when medium pace bowler Graeme McCarter was made available at the last minute and he took 3-38 as Clevedon were bowled out for 228.

The seconds hosted local rivals Winterbourne, who decided to bat first and made 201 all out.

After tea, it wasn’t long before Marcus Wormwell (9), Kyp Bridgen (6) and Sam Summerfield (0) were all back in the hutch.

Danny Slade’s score became a crucial element of the Thornbury innings as his 53 gave a great starting platform for the middle order to build from.

Juvaunie Gayle (13), James Tunnicliffe (20) and Alexander Broomsgrove (22) all got started but failed short of winning the game.

Veteran David Hammond (1), with a win in his sights, was given out lbw.

It was left to Thornbury's youth to bring the team home with a win.

Harry Wormwell and Joshua Morris batted extremely well and rotated the strike, hitting the bad balls for six as the total got closer.

At the close Wormwell ended up with 27 and Morris with 35 as Thornbury won by two wickets.
