CHIPPING Sodbury thirds remain well in the hunt for promotion from Division Four of the Bristol and District League thanks to a nerve-tingling one-run home victory over Gordano Valley.

Nic Anderson (52 not out), opener Mark Graham (45) and teenager Jacob Havard (40) shone as the home side battled their way to 190-9 after winning the toss.

And Sodbury then had to show nerves of steel to complete the win thanks to the efforts of Ben Weaver (4-47 from 12), Darren Bell (3-27) and Callum Davidge (2-22).

Also in contention to go up are Sodbury fourths, who continued their good form in Division Ten with a five-wicket triumph at Old Bristolians Westbury.

Aaron Morgan (4-43) helped restrict the Old Boys to just 91 but batting was not easy all afternoon and Sodbury were grateful to opener Sam Vile (38) as they closed in on their target.

Sodbury fifths wrapped up a good day of Bristol and District action for the club with an 80-run win away to Barrow Gurney seconds in Division 11.

Rob Higgs (34) top-scored as the visitors totalled 168 before Jamie Pearson (4-22) got to work in another comfortable victory.

It was another tough day at the office for Sodbury’s firsts in the WEPL’s Glos/Wilts division with a 139-run reverse at Swindon despite the efforts of the returning Harry Webb (34) and Jamie Wakefield (33 and figures of 2-43).

Sodbury seconds, too, went down, by 90 runs at Stroud where Jack Philpott claimed 3-55 after Jake Reed’s earlier 53 and an unbeaten 46 from Martyn Rendell.
