GLOUCESTERSHIRE women held the upper hand against Buckinghamshire to take an eight-shot winning margin at Iver Heath B.C.

The rink of Barbara Nelmes (Cheltenham), Vera Clarke (Gloucester Spa), Carolann Shirtliff (Falcon) and Maddie Hale (Fairford) were in sparkling form when they went from 6-6 after 10 ends to a stunning 22-7 lead five ends later.

Too hot to handle in the run-in, they picked up another 10 shots for a 32-8 win.

Jan Hunt (Ardagh), Ann Taylor (Tetbury), Gill Stevenson (Henleaze) and Lyn Hamer (Ardagh) recovered from 12-6 down to jump into a 16-8 lead and go onto win 18-12.

Pat Thorley (Nailsworth), Margaret Cadle (Sir Thomas Rich’s), Doreen Thomas (Lydney) and Marion Haynes(Tewkesbury) had to come from 11-7 down at the midpoint to take a 17-11 lead five ends later and go onto win 23-15.

Val Ayres (Lydney), Barbara Clarke (Gloucester City), Pat Ward-Davies (Stroud), and Christine Magee(EDF Energy) were 6-1 up after five ends before slipping behind 14-12.

They came back to level 15-15 after 18 ends and just lost out 18-17.

Joyce Wilkins (Tetbury), Janet Lee-Cooper (Yate), Jenny Stanfield (Moreton) and Jan Bishop (Tewkesbury) looked to be heading for a large defeat when they went 16-6 down.

Over the next five ends they grabbed 11 shots to one to draw level at 17-17 and then take a 19-18 lead, only to squander seven shots in three ends to lose 25-19.

Jackie Tuckfield (Henleaze), Angela Wildsmith (Tetbury), Veronica Baldwin (Gloucester Co-op) and Linda Challenger (Page Ladies) were up against when they trailed 14-7 after 10 ends and ended up on the wrong end of a 34-11 defeat.
