THORNBURY seconds leaped into second spot in the West of England Premier League Premier Two 2nd XI table after winning at promotion rivals Chard on Saturday.

In one of the few games in the region to go ahead, Chard batted first and scored 184-9 with the majority of wickets being taken by skipper Greg Mallitte, who picked up four.

The other wickets went to James Tunnicliffe, Marcus Wormwell, Harry Wormwell and Joshua Morris (2).

Thornbury got the runs for the loss of just three wickets with Colin Blick hitting 65 not out.

The corresponding fixture between the first teams of Thornbury and Chard was cancelled due to the weather.

Thornbury firsts visit struggling Minehead this Saturday.

The seconds play Knowle at home.

Thornbury will play an MCC side featuring Gibraltar international Rex Purnell, ex-Somerset player Chris Gange and former Glamorgan wicketkeeper Adam Miles, who is the brother of Gloucestershire star Craig Miles, on Thursday, starting at 10.30am.
