WITH all the heat, a number of Thornbury Running Club members decided to take to the water at the weekend, though a few still found running events to suit them.

Only two club members took part in a parkrun; both at Little Stoke and both first in their age categories, with Garry Slater eighth overall in 19:05 and Jim Godden 13th in 19:27.

Rob Cowlard is working his way back into full training and took on Severn AC's White Horse 5k race at Sandhurst.

His time was a respectable 17:11, though he will be chasing the 16:39 he achieved in August of last year over the same course.

At the Cotswold Standard Triathlon on Sunday, Roly Ward had a good all-round performance to finish 44th in 2:22:45.6.

This Thursday there is no meeting at the Leisure Centre but club members are encouraged to run in the annual Rockhampton Fun Run, which starts at 7pm on the village green by the old cricket club.

The course is just over four miles and mainly flat, either on quiet lanes or on tracks. Entries are accepted on the night.
