HAVING learned his trade from one of the greatest cricketers Gloucestershire has ever produced, Alex Allen looks set for a bright future.
The 14-year-old Thornbury youngster was coached by his grandfather, David Allen before the former Gloucestershire and England cricketer passed away in May, and has put in several impressive performances recently.
Allen, a left-arm orthodox spinner, is captain of the Castle School side and plays for Thornbury under-15s and Gloucestershire under-14s.
As well as bowling very well for the county, Allen has produced some match-winning displays for his club side recently.
In a bowl-off in the Thornbury nets in the national cup second round he hit the stumps with all three of his deliveries, followed by figures of 4-15 in the BYCL 20-over competition.
Against Cam in the 40-over GYL competition, Allen claimed 4-10 from five overs, wiping out the middle order and taking his first hat-trick.
A right-handed batsman, he also scored his first fifty against Rockhampton in the BYCL 20-over league.
