WEEK 11 of the Slimbridge Front Pin Summer Skittles League saw third-placed Bowmen make it three consecutive victories against The Dons.

In a close first half The Dons led by two pins after four legs, however Gloria Cross scored 52 for the Bowmen, her total including a 15-spare. Richard Day, with a 15-spare, and Chas Vincent, with a 14-spare, helped the eventual winners take a 15-pin first half advantage this despite Mark Stamp scoring 58 for The Dons.

Darren Noble started the second half with a 13-spare followed by a score of nine, keeping The Dons in the game. However, two single figure leg totals, along with a score of 52 from Cara Zoglowek, helped the Bowmen pull away, at one point leading the half by 30 pins. The Dons did manage to reduce the deficit, eventually falling 25 pins short of the Bowmen, who recorded a 40-pin victory.

Having dropped points in their previous meeting, the Geriatrics made sure of maximum points with a 182-pin victory over the struggling Breezers.

The former were well in control of the game from start to finish, recording only one duck and having four players hit scores in the 50s. Clarence O’Conner was top scorer for the winners with 58, his total including a 12-spare, whilst Martyn Jones hit 39 for the Breezers and Alan Hatch recorded a 13-spare.

However they were unable to repeat their feat from the first meeting, losing the first half by 71 pins and the second half by 111 pins.

Snorts FC faced Slimbridge RBL for a second time, the game having been postponed from its original date.

Unlike the previous week’s meeting it was Snorts FC who controlled the first half, Peter Clutterbuck hitting a first leg 13-spare to put then firmly in control. Alan Cobb recorded a 14-spare whilst Steve Tilley hit 57 as they opened up a 63-pin first half advantage.

The second half saw a reversal in fortunes as Lorna Price hit a 14-spare in the first leg for Slimbridge RBL to see them open up a 12-pin first leg advantage; her score of 61, coupled with a 13-spare from Trudy Barnfield, saw Slimbridge RBL just 12 pins behind entering the final leg and in with a chance of picking up their second victory for the season.

Despite scoring a 21-pin leg it was not enough as Snorts managed to steady the ship and, despite not recording any spares, they scored a 25-pin leg to win by 16 pins overall.

Teams are reminded to submit their entries to the end of season pairs and singles no later than the end of July.
