INSTEAD of a normal Thursday club night, Thornbury runners supported the Rockhampton Fun Run recently, a flat course of about four miles in length, using local roads and tracks.

Rob Cowlard (23:43) was not only first veteran but also beat everyone to finish almost a minute ahead of second-place Paul Horsfall (24:31), while Steve Allen (6th, 26:36) had to be content with following the first male and female under-14 runners to the finish line.

Close behind came Matt Johnstone (7th, 26:43) and Jim Godden (8th, 26:55) while Mike Willis, 10th in 27:40, was first over-60.

Becky McInnes, 20th in 30:36 was the first Thornbury Running Club lady to complete the course, and the first senior lady, although beaten by three juniors including local girl Rosie Allen, Steve's daughter, who runs for Westbury Harriers.

Other club members were Nick Langridge (14th, 29:05), Ross Turnbull (16th, 30:14) Steve Dimond (24th, 31:57), Chris Ashworth (26th 32:08), Hugh McPherson (27th, 32:58), Jerry Clothier (28th, 33:02), Pete Mainstone (35th, 34:20 ), Gareth Thomas (36th, 34:54 ), Malcolm Carr (37th, 34:58 ), David Flemington (45th, 37:05), Jan Gaze (48th, 38:15), Karen Carr (50th, 39:22), Val James (54th, 40:38), Sue Pascoe (58th, 42:15), John Grimsey (59th 42:36), Dorothy Thomas (62nd, 45:38), Rebecca Dunsford (64th, 48:27), Graham Bishop (74th, 64:17), Sylvia Fox (75th, 64:19) and Carole Bishop (76th, 64:30).

The parkruns only attracted three Thornbury members on Saturday.

At Little Stoke Daniel Harding was 14th in 19:50, with club captain John Watts 75th in 26:46.

Jack Grudgings ran well at Chipping Sodbury to finish first in his age category and seventh overall in 20:47.

Thornbury Running Club meets at 7pm on Thursday evenings at Thornbury Leisure Centre and new members are always welcome.
