THORNBURY Hockey Club held a very successful summer league at their Castle School base.

One Lydney team won the competition and their other side finished as runners-up.

Club chairman Sara Newman presented the trophies to the victorious sides and thanked all teams for their continued support.

Thornbury, under new captain Sian Fuller, look forward to the new season with league fixtures starting on September 27.

Before that a number of friendly matches will be played against opponents not faced in the league campaign.

Last season’s captain Amanda McGarry will be vice-captain this season whilst Beth Brown takes up a similar role for the seconds, for whom Alex Arnold is team captain.

The third team will be guided by Sarah Brearley and Lorna Thornton this season.

Thornbury start pre-season training on Monday, August 18 at The Castle School and this continues on Monday evenings (7.30pm to 8.30pm) throughout the season with the usual short breaks at Christmas and Easter.

Coaching sessions for the club's successful junior section begin on Monday, September 1 at 6.30pm.

Anyone interested in joining the club can get in touch with chairman Sara Newman 07860700124 or turn up at a training session.

The club's first team play in Berkeley Division, the seconds in Division Two and the thirds in Division Three.

Most fixtures are against local sides with derbies against Wotton, Dursley, Pucklechurch and Badminton featuring in the league matches.
