YATE youngster Dan Healey will compete in the Team Sport Indoor Karting Championships Finals at the Docklands circuit in London on Monday, September 1.

To qualify for this event racers had to attend their local kart circuit three times in May, June and July and then were automatically entered into the semi-finals.

Healey won four out of five of his semi-final heats, the fifth of which he lost by a fraction of a second, and won his group category to reach the Finals.

He won this Championship at the first attempt in 2011 and was runner-up last year in 2013 when he was beaten on the last lap six corners from the end.

The category he will be entered into is for 12 to 16-year-olds and he will compete against other qualifiers from around the UK.

Meanwhile, Healey is still second in the novice class of the Hereford Raceway Open Grand Prix Championship with four rounds to go, sitting just three points behind the leader. He is also fifth overall.

In his most recent outing, Healey started on pole in the B Final and led from start to finish.

He held off the challenge of a more experienced (non-novice) driver for the whole race,to take the win.

The first two finishers from the B Final then tagged onto the back of the A Final.

Healey started eighth out of nine and finished fifth overall to take a first place novice trophy.

In his second race he was fifth again, this time taking home a second place trophy for the novice class.

Healey lost valuable points in his previous meeting.

After getting a second place novice trophy in one race he threw away another after trying to overtake two karts on a tight corner.

He got past the first one but the second put him in the tyre wall.
