Real Thornbury 5 Mendip United 0

REAL Thornbury completed their pre-season schedule with a fine victory against a Mendip United side who won the Bristol Combination Premier title last season.

The Bristol & District League Senior Division side's first goal was scored midway through the first half by Sam Taylor after the team had already come close on a couple of occasions.

They doubled their lead following a speculative looping volley from returning striker Shane Walker, which the Mendip goalkeeper could only fumble into the net.

Although Real weren’t as fluid with their football in the second half they were the first to get on the score sheet with Taylor slotting home after making a lung bursting run from deep.

Soon after, Thornbury had stand-in goalkeeper Mark Willis to thank for keeping their clean sheet as he flew across his goal to tip wide a driven Mendip effort destined for the top corner.

Walker managed to notch his second of the game with a cool finish as he broke in from the right wing and lone striker Adam Bruton, who had worked tirelessly for the side, finished off the scoring with a delightful scooped chip over the keeper after he had raced clear of the Mendip back line.

This result leaves Real full of confidence heading into the new season, which kicks off on Wednesday September, 3 with a home match versus Hambrook at GFA headquarters Oaklands Park, 7.30pm.

The club are actively looking for a new goalkeeper. Anyone interested should contact Jon Miller on 07877078876.
