Tytherington Rocks 2 Fairford Town 2

TYTHERINGTON Rocks came within three minutes of picking up their first win of the season against Fairford but did at least get a point on the board.

Leading 2-1, the defence went missing from a corner on the right which was driven low across the six-yard box and bundled home by Fairford player-manager Gareth Davies, who had just come on as a sub to snatch a point.

The game started with two quick goals, the first coming in the fourth minute when a brilliant drive from the edge of the penalty box by Town's Jordon Cobb flew low to keeper Chris Mann's right and into the bottom of the net to put the visitors one up.

One minute later Rocks got the equaliser when captain Szymon Gromek received the ball in midfield and went through the opposition defence to score from just inside the penalty box.

With both teams playing open football the game ebbed back and forth, with the Town hitting the crossbar and upright within minutes when it looked like they would score.

The best goal of the game came on 30 minutes when the ball came out of defence on the left down the wing to Zayn Alime, who crossed to the far side of the goal for Safian Skupinski, making his debut for the Rocks, to smash the ball past Town keeper Joe Snell and put his side ahead.

The second half was a repeat of the first minus the goals until Town got their late equaliser as chances were created at both ends and a draw was probably the fair result.

Rocks are away on Saturday to Carterton, 3pm.
