CHIPPING Sodbury must win their final game of the season, at home to Tewkesbury on Saturday, and then hope that other results go their way if they are to have a chance of avoiding relegation from the WEPL’s Glos & Wilts division.

Sodbury came off second best at home to Biddestone, by 67 runs, and returned to the bottom of the table as Westbury overcame Chippenham by six wickets to go ninth with a two-point advantage.

It will not become clear until after the end of the season how many teams will be relegated, but Sodbury will be keen to not finish bottom and at least give themselves a chance of survival should only one side drop.

Biddestone reached 256-6 at the Ridings, rallying from 120-4, before Sodbury fell short at 189, opener Jamie Wakefield top scoring on 53.

The seconds’ outside hopes of top place and promotion from their WEPL division came to an end with a nine-wicket reverse at Biddestone despite teenage opener Will Christofi’s unbeaten 100.

There was better luck though for Sodbury thirds who are guaranteed a superb promotion from Division Four of the Bristol & District League after securing a four-wicket win at home to Stothert & Pitt.
