THORNBURY thirds wrapped up the Bristol & District League Seventh Division title on Saturday with a five-wicket home win over their closest rivals Bristol YMCA thirds.
Second-placed YMCA won the toss and decided to bat.
Luke Messer and Stu McWhinnie bowled quick for Thornbury and steadily picked up wickets – the first boundary was not until 24th over.
Spin twins Derek Davies and Alex Allen picked up 4-27 and 2-43 respectively before McWhinnie (3-11) and Messer polished off the tail as YMCA were bowled out for 135.
With Thornbury chasing Mark Stutter was bowled second ball, which brought Matt Scarbrough to the crease for his first bat of the season.
He was out for a gutsy 12, soon followed by Simon Weeks for a quick-fire 47.
Jack Summerfield was out following a breezy 12 and this brought skipper Richard Hawkins to the crease.
Needing only 15 to win, he went for the big one and was caught.
McWhinnie finished the job off with 57 not out.
Thornbury are 76 points clear at the top of the table with a game to play.
