YATE Town boss Rob Cousins is confident that Lewis Haldane will stay at the club after he scored the winner in their FA Cup tie at Cowes Sports on Saturday.

The former Bristol Rovers striker can speak with Southern League Premier Division side Paulton Rovers tomorrow after they made a seven-day approach, but would be cup tied in the competition if he makes the move.

Cousins said: “The positive sign is that Lewis travelled with us. If he was to go I can’t imagine he would have.

“The vibes I got from him are that he is happy at Yate and has no intention of going.”

Cousins was pleased to reach the first qualifying round even though he felt the performance was below-par.

He said: “We have played better. A few of the players weren’t at their best against a side that tried to contain us and catch us on the counter-attack.

“The most important thing was the result but we’d like to improve.”
