HALLEN pushed Swindon Supermarine all the way for a place in the first qualifying round of the FA Cup on Saturday.

A sixth minute strike from Luke Hopper got was enough for the Southern League side to avoid a banana skin.

The Western League visitors roared back to hand Marine a stern examination of their cup credentials but Sam Warrell pulled off some important stops as they held on to claim a 1-0 preliminary round victory.

A depleted Winterbourne United side went out after a 5-2 defeat at Newport (IOW).

Ashley McGrane cancelled out Scott Jones’ opener for the hosts but Newport opened up a 4-1 lead with goals from Aidan Sainsbury, Liam Trick and Fred Knowles.

Alex Monks reduced the deficit before Knowles completed his brace to send the Wessex League side through.
