Carterton 9 Tytherington Rocks 1

TYTHERINGTON Rocks travelled to high-flying Carterton buoyed by their recent draw against Fairford but that optimism was shattered by a crushing defeat.

There were ominous signs early in the game with some errant passing by Rocks leading to several crucial tackles by the Rocks defence and a free header from a Carterton free kick within seven minutes.

A right wing cross on ten minutes gave Aaron Witham an easy tap-in for the first Carterton goal and although play settled down with Rocks sharing the attacks, a speculative shot by Dan Bishop doubled the score on 17 minutes.

The wayward passing continued, although Rocks did threaten the home goal on several occasions to no avail.

Play settled down towards half-time and a way back from a 2-0 deficit seemed within Tytherington's reach.

Substitutions at half-time reinforced that belief with Rocks enjoying some attacking football but attempts by Jim Brock and Safian Skupinski brought no reward.

Szymon Gromek worked tirelessly throughout the game but the effort to counter-attack was taking its toll.

A Rock mis-kick gave BradleyBryant an opportunity to score Carterton's third goal.

The home team sustained the pressure and goals by Jordan Cormack on 65 and 75 minutes, Miguel Zubeldia and Bishop took the score to seven.

Despite succumbing to intense pressure,Tytherington's determination to compete was rewarded in the 85th minute with a well struck consolation goal from Skupinski.

The home team were stung, having relinquished a clean sheet, and Witham's second on 88 minutes together with a 90th minute goal from Reece Bayliss completed the scoring.

Rocks take on new boys Longlevens at home on Saturday, 3pm.
