ALL eyes will now be on the manager.

Ady Pennock was hurting on Saturday and it showed. He had every right to be angry with the players, but must remember that they are his squad and the team was selected by him. It will not just be the players we look at next week.

My sincere hope is that this genuine football man can get it right. Good luck Ady.

Things started to go wrong when Clovis failed a fitness test. Sinclair moved inside from the wing and was outstanding. A rest for Hughes had already been planned.

Playing Frear and Kelly in the same side does not work. Both are attacking left-sided players and good ones too, but on the right, Frear was lost and after a bright start, Marcus faded as he had at Welling.

James Norwood was asked to play as a striker alongside Jon Parkin. I value the contribution James makes to the team. He can score goals wherever he plays and possesses the undoubted pace our team undeniably needs. He would always be one of my first selections .

This season he has too often been on the bench, then when he has played it has been either as a wide player or striker, or in some matches both.

My new view is that he needs to be told that he is the best player in the position that suits him more than any other – wide on the right. Then he can, as his scoring record proves, be a consistent match winner. I was happy enough until half time on Saturday, living in Cirencester I was able to visit the RAC ground on Thursday and watch the team training.

The players came across as a happy, united, hardworking bunch.

There was much emphasis on passing and movement with the ball being kept on the ground and the opening stages of the Wrexham game reflected this.

There were times when we looked good and dangerous, why then did the wheel come off?

Twenty free-kicks given away, four yellow cards and one red are not acceptable figures.

It could easily have been a penalty given away and an extra red but the erratic referee did not see it that way. Erratic is the kindest way I can use to describe someone who thought Jon Parkin was responsible for fouling the Wrexham keeper. It was his own defender who collided with him, Jon as he is often, was not being near enough to the action.

Wrexham were welcome visitors. Their Dennis Menace shirts were innovative and their expectations, singing proudly made the away end seem like an outdoor “songs of praise”. Proud and true to their Welsh identity they added much to the day.

A supporters club meeting at the end of the day saw the resignation of Sam Reid as joint chairman. Thank you to Sam and his family, who have done so much for the club.
