Chipping Sodbury Town 2 Kingswood 0

CHIPPING Sodbury Town got back to league action after a two-week lay off due to cup commitments with a home win over local rivals Kingswood.

Neither side had managed a shot on target until the 39th minute when Kingswood should have taken the lead as Paul Bleaken's cross into the box found Tom Higgins with space to shoot but he hit his shot straight at home keeper George Hale.

Two minutes later Sodbury’s Sam Jenkins let fly from the edge of the box but it went just wide.

Right on half-time Kingswood were caught out with a quickly taken free kick, which found Danny Coombes on the right, and from the edge of the box he sent over a looping shot that cleared keeper Chris Fox and dropped under the bar at the far post.

The second half belonged to the home side, who created a number of chances to increase the lead with shots from Coombes and a couple from Justin Cattle bringing the best out of Fox.

The visitors' first real strike on goal came after 59 minutes when Simon Clark struck the ball well, but it went straight to Hale.

Sodbury got a second goal on 70 minutes from a Kingswood free kick that was struck well but rebounded back upfield and a cross into Mike England gave him the opportunity to stab the ball past Fox.

Kingswood had another chance to pull a goal back on 73 minutes from a free kick on the edge of the box that was well struck by Clark but Hale dived full length to push the ball away for a corner.

Ollie Clark then missed a great opportunity to make it 3-0 to the home side and then right at the end Hale pulled off a great save to deny Gary Simmons a goal for Kingswood.
