LUKE Hedger climbed an incredible 21 places to finish tenth in the second race of the British Supersport Championship round ten at Assen in the Netherlands on Sunday.

The Yate youngster had a very difficult job ahead of him, having to start from 31st place on the grid, but he did an amazing job.

By the end on lap one he managed to pass over half the field, finding himself in 14th place.

It took him a few more laps to catch up to the next group of riders but he managed to gain on them and pass three more and on the last lap his team-mate fell on the last corner, moving Hedger up to tenth place.

Hedger was really looking forward to racing on the international circuit but things were not going well right from the start as he suffered with problems to the front end of his Gearlink Kawasaki machine in both practice sessions and struggled to stay in the top 15.

Hedger's mechanic's made a few changes and in qualifying he was doing really well but just missed out on the top ten, having to start the sprint race on Saturday afternoon from 13th position.

About an hour before the race was due to start a thunderstorm came over the circuit, bringing very heavy rain to the back part of the track, so all of the riders had a very difficult decision on what tyres to race on as the front part of the track was bone dry.

Hedger decided to go for full wets but this proved to be the wrong choice as the circuit quickly dried up half way through the race and he dropped further and further back through the field, only managing to finish the race in 20th.

Things were made worse for Hedger as his time put him 31st on the grid for the Sunday race but he pulled off an unbelievable task to finish in the top ten.

Hedger still remains 12th in the championship and only has two more rounds to go at Silverstone and then Brands Hatch, where he hopes to get some more consistent results.

“It has been a very difficult weekend for me, struggling to find a good set up for my Gearlink Kawasaki machine," said Hedger.

"Race one was a total nightmare for me with half the track being wet and the other half dry.

"It was difficult to make the right tyre choice and I chose the wrong way, making race two extremely difficult for my self and finding my self down on the 11th row of the grid in 31st spot.

"After a very good start I just dug in and made up 17 places up by the end of lap one and ended the race in tenth place, which I am over the moon with.

"None of this would have been possible with out the support of my amazing team Gearlink Kawasaki and my very loyal sponsor 1st Choice Flooring."
