GYL U15s 40-Over Final

Cheltenham (195-8) tied with Thornbury (195-9)

AFTER a game that swung one way and then the other, Thornbury shared the Gloucestershire Youth League title honours with Cheltenham.

Having lost the toss, Thornbury batted first with Harry Wormwell (50) playing fantastically well, Ed Webb (23) and Ollie Humphries (24) both reaching the 20s. The team fought well to make it to 195-9 and had a good target to bowl at.

All Thornbury bowlers did very well and the fielding was superb.

With Thornbury battling to the end they managed to hold Cheltenham to a tie.

The home side needed one off the last ball to draw and, with chaos from both camps managed, to scramble a run to level the scores.

Tom Price took three wickets, while Alex Allen picked up two for Thornbury.

Thornbury coach Mark Allen said: "The lads were brilliant on the day of the final in what was an unbelievable game of cricket.

"Both umpires at the presentation said they had not witnessed a game so close and stated how well both teams had played in the best spirit of the game.

"I am very proud of how the boys kept battling against a good Cheltenham side playing at their home ground and they thoroughly deserved a good result.

"We could have come home as outright winners but that’s cricket and what a game it was.

"Well done to the lads this season reaching the semis of the national cup and reaching the final of the BYCL league final, the BYCL cup and also the 40-over GYL final – a great effort and one we can build on running into winter training.
