Stroud Charity Cup Section C

Berkeley Town Reserves 4 Uley 3

BERKELEY survived a late rally from Uley to progress into the next round.

A dramatic individual goal by Uley's man-of-the-match Lee Stopford two minutes from the final whistle reduced Berkeley's lead to 4-3.

Then with 30 seconds of the match remaining Uley were awarded a free-kick just outside the penalty area.

Rich Kemp's strike was good but a great save from the home keeper denied the visitors an equalising goal.

Uley began the game well with Kemp scoring the opening goal following a good cross by Dave Nash.

Nash and Pete Jagger were in control of the midfield and created several good opportunities for Uley to add to the score.

Uley paid the price for failing to add to their tally in the 38th minute when Berkeley equalised with a good goal from Ross Stump.

Berkeley continued with confidence at the beginning of the second period.

However, against the run of play Uley regained the lead when Kemp's persistence forced a corner. Nash's pin-point cross to the back post was headed into the net by Nigel Hart.

The home team raised their game, scoring an equaliser from Dan Gillison before they took the lead with a strong finish from Jack Lamonby.

At this stage Uley looked ragged and were grateful for an outstanding performance from Stopford at centre-back to keep in the game.

Berkeley increased their lead to 4-2 before Stopford's goal reduced the deficit.

GFA Minor County Cup

Uley Reserves 2 Frampton 3rds 2 (Uley won 7-5 on penalties)

TOM Russell was the home team's man-of-the-match as Uley staged a second half comeback to progress to the next round of the cup.

Frampton made the early running by scoring twice in the first half to give them a 2-0 lead.

Nial Henbury and James Stennett came on as substitutes for Uley and they made their presence felt, each scoring a goal.

Henbury hit the post and bar before the ball deflected into the net and Stennett scored the equaliser to send the match to penalties.

Uley progressed into the next round when they came out on top in the shootout.

GFA Primary County Cup

Randwick 3rds 3 Uley A 2

ULEY were missing a few of their regular players in midfield and this forced them to switch their formation to a 4-3-3 at the start.

The visitors dominated the first half, cruising to a 2-0 lead with a goal from Simon Booth and a penalty conversion by the reliable Gavin Fisher.

Mark Seer was Uley's man of the match and his work-rate and unselfish passing deserved more goals.

Better finishing from his fellow players would have put Uley in a commanding position at half-time.

However, the second half was entirely different story. Randwick came back strongly and forced Uley onto the defensive.

The home team's pressure told and they scored a penalty on 65 minutes.

In the 74th minute poor marking from Uley gave the home team the opportunity to draw level.

Uley lost their grip on the game and they conceded a third goal in the 80th minute, which put Randwick through to the next round.
