Flying Press Floodlit Cup Round Two

Lydney Town 6 Tytherington Rocks 2

TYTHERINGTON Rocks crashed out of the Floodlit Cup after shipping six goals inside 48 minutes in difficult conditions at Lydney.

Thick fog swirled around for the whole 90 minutes, but the referee and the two teams decided that it was possible to start the game and play continued to the end.

Rocks started with three players making their debuts for the club, Jack Payne and Adil Alime starting with Tom Brock making an appearance from the bench. With so many changes Rocks started badly and Richard Kear scored after five minutes.

The Lydney strikers put the game out of Rocks' reach, scoring on 12 minutes through Pat Gibbs, with Kear adding his second on 25 minutes.

Jarred Liddington picked up a short pass by Rocks keeper Daniel Jesionowski and easily scored for number four before the first half scoring was completed when Kear completed his hat-trick.

With Luke Patten going off injured, Ashley McDowell came from the bench just before half-time and injected more movement into Tytherington's play.

With boss Lukasz Cabaj away, stand-in manager Allan Thomas rang some changes at half-time, mostly positional, however in the first minute of the second half Lydney went further in front when Kear met a corner with a rocket header and that completed the Town scoring.

Rocks somehow managed to keep their heads despite the big deficit and in the 48th minute Daniel Marshall, having moved into midfield, collected the ball outside the penalty box and fired home from about 30 yards to pull a goal back.

Tom Brock came on with 30 minutes remaining and made his presence felt. The whole team were now playing as a unit and created more chances than at any time in the game, with McDowell and James Brock causing the Town defence problems.

Rocks were awarded a late free kick outside the box on the left and this was taken by James Brock, whose rocket shot hit the back of the net before the keeper could move to make the score more respectful.

The second half was a great improvement and if Tytherington can repeat that form in future games they should start winning a few points in the league and give the management time to build on the squad.
