Hellenic League Division One West

Tytheringon Rocks 3 New College Swindon 2

TYTHERINGTON Rocks earned three deserved points against New College Swindon but were hanging on in the last few minutes of an entertaining game at The Hardwicke Field.

An excellent start put Rocks one up when a free kick on the far left taken by James Brock in the fifth minute to the far side of the six-yard box was met my defender John Timlin, who rose above the defence to head into the net for his first goal at Hellenic League level.

Rocks continued to do most of the attacking, although New College created a couple of good chances that with steadier finishing could have brought reward.

In the 39th minute Safian Skupinski ran through into the penalty box and found Damiel Marshall running up from the back to hammer the ball past keeper Alex Swatridge for an excellent goal to put Rocks 2-0 up.

With Rocks now completely in command it only took another three minutes before they went further in front when an accurate pass from Shomari Sengor reached Brock, who turned and moved in ten yards from the left before unleashing a shot high into the far corner of the net from 25 yards.

The second half started badly for Rocks when, on 50 minutes, New College scored through Christy Millar, who came in from the right and hit his shot across keeper Chris Manns from just inside the penalty box to reduce the deficit.

This goal spurred New College on and Manns brought off two excellent saves.

Late in the game both sides were reduced to ten men, Skupinski seeing red for the Rocks after a scuffle with Millar also being sent off, from separate incidents.

New College got a late goal when a free kick taken from the left by Harvey Scholes, which was not cleared, was driven in by Dave Kinuthia but the Rocks held on.

This win was down to another hard-working team effort, with all making contributions.

Rocks are away on Saturday to Fairford Town, 3pm.

Star man: Jerome Ingram.

*Tytherington Reserves gained another three points in Premier One of the Bristol Suburban League, winning by the odd goal in three away to Ashton United with Matt Siddons scoring both goals.

They are away to Greyfriars Athletic in the GFA Cup on Saturday, 1.45pm.
