Brockworth 46 Dursley 22

DURSLEY were comfortably beaten by second-placed Brockworth on Saturday.

The visitors got off on the wrong foot, giving away a first minute penalty for Brockworth to take a 3-0 lead.

Things started to look up with strong runs by winger Damien Cummings and fly half James Sheldon but Brockworth added a further penalty after 12 minutes.

With 25 minutes gone Brockworth increased their lead to 9-0 from another penalty but Dursley closed the gap a short while after with scrum half Grant Boucher kicking a safe penalty to make it 9-3.

More hard yards up the centre from Scott Udal and a clearance from inside the Dursley five metre by Simon Camm held the Brockworth charge until 30 minutes when they kicked another penalty.

Despite a great take from the restart by hooker Alex Budd, Brockworth broke through several tackles to score a converted try, further extending their lead to 19-3, but they missed a penalty minutes later.

In first half injury time winger Brad Winchle intercepted the ball on half way and evaded tacklers to score with Boucher adding the difficult touchline conversion to close the gap to 19-10.

Brockworth added another penalty before the end of the half.

The scoreline remained unchanged until 16 minutes into the second half when Brockworth added another converted try at 29-10.

Brockworth added another three points following a yellow card for Jake Martin and the subsequent penalty increased the lead.

Two minutes later a yellow card for Winchle brought Dursley down to 13 men and another converted try for Brockworth made it 39-10.

Danny Brookes, with his first kick of the game, saw some space behind the Brockworth defence and Budd was able to gather and score with Boucher adding the conversion.

On 70 minutes, Brockworth added a further converted try at 46-17.

Dursley then played some of their best rugby from a scrum on the opposition 22 with the ball going along the back line, through the hands of Tom Broomfield and Cummings for full back Olli Halford to touchdown in the corner, but Boucher was unable to add the extra points.

The visitors pulled out all the stops in search of the four-try bonus point but were denied the chance when Winchle was unable to recover his chip through in the dying seconds.

Dursley's next game is at home against Chipping Sodbury on Saturday.
