Stroud League Division Two

Dursley Town Res 2 Abbeymead Rovers Res 0

JACK Knight and Jamie Bennett fired Dursley to victory against Abbeymead with a brace of well-taken goals in a five-minute period either side of the interval.

The home side were given the run-around for much of the first half as the Gloucester outfit kept possession much the better without getting any shots on target.

However, Town steadily grew into the game and took the lead two minutes before the break when top-scorer Knight drove a free-kick over the wall from 25 yards.

Bennett doubled the advantage from Dursley’s first attack of the second period, firing a powerful shot into the top corner, although the striker was injured in the process.

The hosts should have gone on to win by more, but the enigmatic Knight passed up a hat-trick of great chances, including when presented with a virtually open goal.

But, with Chris Wilkins commanding in an otherwise inexperienced but impressive back four, Town had no problem making it ten points from a possible 12 at home.

Dursley: K Watson; J Dolbear, D French (L Matthews 75), J Bartman, C Wilkins; J Mears (J Dimon 70), A Baker, Antony Nash; J Knight, J Bennett (J Woodward 48), J Warner.

Goals: Knight (43), Bennett (47).

* The Dursley first team’s poor run continued as they were walloped 6-1 at Broadwell Amateurs in Division One of the Gloucestershire Northern Senior League.

Giant striker Craig Lewis led the way with a hat-trick with Cain Penkethman, Ross Gabriel and Steve Belfitt also on target, while Jay Redbond notched the Town reply.

* Dursley thirds beat Randwick Reserves 4-0 to earn their first Stroud League Division Five victory of the season.
