Cotswold Edge Golf Club

NOT only did the Cotswold Edge A win their Cotswold & District Ladies Alliance match against Broadway 5.5-1.5, they also gained promotion and will play in the top league for the first time next season.

With the B team gaining promotion as well from Division Five, the ladies section of Cotswold Edge have had an excellent season.

First team captain Debbie Pringle and seconds' skipper Michelle Craker are very proud of their teams' achievements and all who have played for them during the season to gain success for the club.

Both sides are looking forward to next season and the challenges of promotion.

Bad weather put off a few people early in the October Medal, but it cleared up around noon and helped many to record good scores.

In Division One, Dave Clutterbuck put in his usual steady round and scored a nett 72 to win, with Vern Chappell just a stroke behind.

In Division Two, Martin Pearce got his together very well to score a nett 65 to win, with Steve Hacker second with 71, and in Division Three a surprised David Green left his game together to nett 73 to win, with Mike Harvey second with 74.

The Seniors Texas Scramble was well supported and scoring was very good.

The winning team were Theo White, Dennis Goodbrand, Tom Baird and Alan Davies with a nett score of 47.75, followed by Rob Rennicks, Keith Dancer, John Newns and Phil Hale with 48.25.

Scoring was good in the Seniors October Medal despite the heavy storms that flooded the greens for a time, and in Division One Tony Mansfield run into form when he scored a nett 72 to win, with John Anderson second on the same score.

In Division Two, John Newns had an exceptional score when he shot a nett 64 and lowered his handicap by three shots.

Results – Division One: 1. T Mansfield 88-16=72; 2. J Anderson 89-17=72; 3. S Craker 79-6=73.

Division Two: 1. J Newns 88-24=64; 2. R J Wills 88-20=68; 3. A F Long 96-26=70.

Cotswold Edge seniors travelled to Knowle and lost an enjoyable match 4-2.

The winning pairs were Theo White and Graham Bartlett, and captain Dave Holliday and Martin Phelps.

Despite the weather, some 13 ex-lady captains played for the Lady Captain Salver.

Scoring was good and the winner was Megan Mills with 34 points, followed by Mary Brealey, who scored 33 points.
