FORMER Premier League referee Steve Tanner has hailed the appointment of almost 30 Gloucestershire FA match officials to the fledgling stages of two of the nation’s top knock-out competitions.

Tanner, who these days is referee development officer for the county association, said that the 2014-15 campaign marked the “most successful start to a season” in relation to GFA match officials being called up to oversee prestigious FA fixtures, whether it be in the middle or running the line.

Tanner, who also enjoyed a spell as a FIFA-listed referee, said: “The GFA has seen more match officials than ever being appointed to the early rounds of all FA competitions.

“This is just reward for the professionalism and dedication shown by them and we are very proud to know that they are all being recognised for their efforts.”
