A JOURNEY that will end next May at Wembley, is set to start Forest Green on Sunday.

Michael Evans, 23 and Ryan Tute, 24, will begin their four hour journeys from different parts of the country to see Forest Green host Scunthorpe United in the first round of the FA Cup.

The tie marks the first of eight steps that will see them eventually reach Wembley in a bid to follow the cup from its roots to its pinnacle.

There is no real reason for their mission that goes beyond a love of football and an interest in seeing football from different perspectives.

Ryan, who works at the Blackpool Gazette newspaper said: "As a lifelong Manchester United fan, I've always enjoyed the other side of football too, as I feel you can easily be sucked into a false reality of what it actually entails being a football fan.

"Over the last five years I've watched my local team Altrincham play a lot more, the atmosphere is just completely different and fans really do know the meaning of dedication.

"Altrincham even play Forest Green next month!"

The decision from the two friends was an idea they thought of during their time at university together and its one that materialised as a result of the extra coverage the FA Cup is receiving in the earlier rounds this season.

The football fanatics may even be making a return trip to Nailsworth in the second round - should Forest Green triumph.

Michael and Ryan decided they would follow a winner stays on strategy and shadow the winner of each game through the rounds, eventually leading to the final.

Michael, a graduate engineer said: "It's a risky ploy, as we could well be supporting the likes of Arsenal or Chelsea in the final.

"But during our time at university we followed the Scottish Cup and went to any possible games we thought there could be in an upset in.

"We love the idea of the underdogs doing well and the unknown factor that comes with the draw."
