BCFA Division One

Thornbury Baptist 2 Castle Green 4

(Match abandoned after 36 minutes due to waterlogged pitch)

TORRENTIAL rain put paid to this match as the referee decided to abandon it due to a waterlogged pitch.

The hosts got off to a disastrous start, going one down in the first minute, two down in the second minute and three down after five minutes.

The Baps could not handle Castle Green attacking on the break and with the heavens opening, it seemed all was lost when they went 4-0 down on 13 minutes.

With manager Chris Beddoes bellowing from the sidelines whilst getting absolutely drenched, Thornbury started to up the tempo and began playing some decent football, despite the conditions.

Ash Tuck had a speculative effort saved before Nic Lockett-Chapman was sent through and he coolly slotted the ball in off the post on 20 minutes.

The Baps were getting stronger and they were rewarded again when Tuck reacted quickest to a poor back-pass and stroked the ball past the keeper.

Thirty-five minutes of incessant rain began to take its toll on the pitch, with the ball stopping in the water and players sliding , so the referee took the decision to abandon the match.

The match will be replayed some time next year.

Thornbury take on top of the table Woodlands Rangers away this Saturday.
