De Cymru & Marches Division One

Wotton-under-Edge 2 Cirencester 2

A LAST-gasp goal from Ryan Howarth rescued a point for Wotton against Cirencester.

The game started with both teams playing quite nervously, trying to get used to the slippery pitch.

Wotton defended well against many Cirencester attacks and managed to absorb a lot of pressure.

Captain Alistair Hammond then received a yellow card and conceded a penalty flick for a deliberate foot in the D, which Cirencester converted.

The men in blue came out fighting in the second half and equalised through a penalty flick by James Cruickshank.

Wotton had all of the possession but couldn't convert any chances or any of their ten short corners.

Cirencester then won the ball on top of the D and took the lead, 2-1.

Wotton refused to give in, however, and piled men forward.

This pressure paid off with Howarth showing great composure to round the keeper and score with the last touch of the game.

The Marches One

Wotton-under-Edge 2nd XI 3 Lydney A 0

THE miserable morning weather looked ominous for the boys in blue.

However, like the weather, things began to look a little brighter on the pitch.

Wotton’s first goal came from some much-deserved good fortune.

After a pin-point pass into the D from James Bull to Dan Jones, the ball fell to Sam Willcox.

A trademark jinxing run from Willcox confused the defence and the goalkeeper, leading to a simple tap into the goal for a 1-0 lead at half-time.

In the second half, Wotton continued to press but tensions were running high.

When hope of a comfortable win was deteriorating, Lydney’s keeper saved a Wotton attempt but the ball bobbled towards the edge of the D and was pounced on by WilliamCave, who pummelled it fiercely goal bound, tearing into the top corner of the net to take the score to 2-0.

The victory was complete when Cave’s second shot was saved, only for John Shovelton to slot the ball gracefully into the bottom corner.

MOM: Niclas Roberts.

The Marches Two

Ross-on-Wye 2nd XI 0 Wotton-under-Edge 3rd XI 6

WOTTON started quickly with Benjy Wells hitting the post within the first minute.

Five minutes later, Callum Niddrie scored with a slap into the back post of the goal to make it 1-0.

Wells scored from a short corner off a defender's stick and in quick succession took the score to 3-0 with his second goal from another short corner, which he buried into the bottom corner of the goal.

Wells then hit the ball in from the right to Ollie White at the back post; and he finished his dinner without a problem.

Next, a beautiful ball through the D from Roy Hewish found Tom Wong at the back post, who buried the ball in the back of the net.

Wotton lost their concentration in the second half, however they kept a clean sheet and Wells managed to score from another short corner to take the final score to 6-0.
