Stroud League Division Two

Dursley Town Res 3 Taverners Res 2

PLAYER-manager Antony Nash snatched a late winner as he led his battling Dursley side to three more home points against a useful Taverners outfit at a soggy Rec.

Adam Baker gave Town a 15th-minute lead when he took down Aaron Nash’s driven cross with his right foot and drove a 20-yard bullet in off the crossbar with his left.

As good as that goal was, though, the home side conceded an equally poor one just a minute later when one long ball exposed them and Robbie Marrett scored a tap-in.

However, five minutes into the second half, Antony Nash’s low cross just evaded brother Aaron, but Jake Mears arrived at the far post to convert from six yards.

Taverners threw the kitchen sink at the hosts in reply, but were repeatedly denied by goalkeeper Keith Watson until Josh Jones finally equalised with 20 minutes to go.

But with time running out, Aaron Nash, only playing because Brimscombe’s game was called off, drew the goalkeeper and squared for brother Antony to win it.

Dursley: K Watson; J Dolbear, D French, J Bartman, C Wilkins; J Minett (J Woodward 70), W Taylor, A Baker, J Mears (J Dimon 80); Aaron Nash, J Bennett (Antony Nash 20).

Goals: Baker (15), Mears (50), Antony Nash (88).

* Dursley’s third-team game against their Frampton counterparts was postponed after the reserves’ match was switched from the main pitch, which was deemed unfit.

Moreton Rangers 3 Dursley Town 2

DURSLEY contrived to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory as their hopes of a three-point haul evaporated inside the last ten minutes in Moreton-in-Marsh.

Goals from Sean Bailey and Curtis Mills had put Town into the lead with just ten minutes remaining after they had fallen behind on the hour mark.

Bailey equalised when going one-on-one with the goalkeeper with 20 minutes left, while Mills pounced following an unfortunate spill by the Moreton stopper.

However, the home side responded with two late strikes to turn things around, Shaun Stanley finishing with a brace and Lee Brooks claiming the other goal.
