BOSS Ady Pennock remains focused on his job at Forest Green despite being linked with a shock return to Gillingham.

Kent-based Pennock,43, is the out-and-out bookies' favourite for the job at his old stamping ground and heads the betting ahead of former Leeds boss Dennis Wise and ex- Cheltenham manager Mark Yates.

Former Gills legend Andy Hessenthaler has been placed in caretaker charge of the League One outfit following the departure of former England caretaker caretaker boss Peter Taylor.

But Pennock is cult hero at Preistfield and his popularity earned him a fan club and a stadium suite named in his honour, where he was a player for seven years having been signed by Tony Pulis in 1996.

Pennock said: “I’m very happy at Forest Green.

"The ambition of the club, the support I’ve received from the chairman, the backing I’ve got from the fans and the commitment of the players has been fantastic."

Rovers sit just two points off the Vanarama Conference play-offs following back-to-back wins and Pennock is remaining focused on the job in hand.

He added:“My focus, my coaching staff’s focus and my players' focus remains squarely on achieving the best results that we can for Forest Green Rovers and the fans.”

Pennock had a six-year first team coaching stint with Premier League Stoke City and joined Rovers in November 2013, following the departure of David Hockaday.
