Slimbridge 0-3 Buckland Athletic

A disappointing week for the Swans ended with a third defeat at Wisloe Road to a Buckland side who leapfrogged Slimbridge in the table to drop the home side to sixth.

In a game largely devoid of incident, goals were conceded in the last ten minutes, topping off a miserable few days for the Swans. Simon Revell notched a brace for the visitors, and Gavin Hammon added the other goal to seal a comfortable victory for a Buckland side who have won all their away games during February.

The first goal goal came just before the break, when Revell drifted a free kick past the Swans’ wall and through the arms of Dave Evans with forty minutes on the clock.

The second goal came with eight minutes remaining. Hammon went on a mazy run, beating three Slimbridge defenders, before planting the ball past Evans.

With almost the last kick of the game, Revell’s corner somehow found its way into the Slimbridge net despite Evans’ despairing dive, to round off a bad day at the office for the home side, who must now pick themselves up for a trip to Bridport on Saturday (3pm)

Slimbridge 2 Shirehampton 2

(Shirehampton win 3-2 on penalties)

DURING midweek, the Swans squandered a two-goal lead to be dumped out of the GFA Challenge Trophy at the semi-final stage by Shirehampton, who go on to meet Bristol Manor Farm in the final.

Leading through a goal in each half from Jamie Martin on twenty minutes, and Paul Fahy on 69 minutes, it all started to go pear-shaped for the home side when Danny Morne and then Danny Copeland pulled the visitors back into the game on 82 and 87 minutes respectively.

With the tie going straight to penalties at full-time, the Swans saw only Ryan Thwaite and Dave Evans score their attempts, with Fahy, Freddy Ward and Leroy Odiero all missing out while Scott Bamford, Dan Spicer and Charlie Harris converted for Shirehampton.
