Tuffley Rovers 1Tytherington Rocks 0
TYTHERINGTON Rocks succumbed to their 14th defeat of the season, despite a valiant defensive performance at promotion-chasing Tuffley Rovers. The result meant Rocks slip to 13th in the table, following Fairford Town’s valuable 3-2 victory over Letcombe.
The home side were in the ascendency throughout the first half, and were lucky to not have been awarded a penalty on 17 minutes. The resulting free-kick on the edge of the box fell just wide of the near post. Tuffley were awarded a penalty minutes later, as Rocks keeper Mills collided with a flailing Brett James inside the area. Marcus Foxwell crashed home the resultant spot kick on 22 minutes. Rovers continued to apply pressure, as Stuart Griffiths drew a well-judged save from Mills to keep the scoreline 1-0 at the break.
Tuffley started the second half with an onslaught of pressure, forcing two goalline clearances and a well-judged parried save from Mills to miraculously keep Rocks in the game. Arguably the best chance of the half fell to Rocks, as an intricate run and cross from James Brock found an unmarked Abdenour Amroui in front of goal; who could only head wide to deny a point in the dying minutes.
The Rocks are next in league action on Saturday as they entertain Carterton at the Hardwicke Playing Fields. Kick-off 3pm.
