HAM youngster Katherine Allen is making a big name for herself in gymnastics with a fantastic achievement on the Iberian Peninsula recently.

It was a brilliant opening to the season for Allen and her partner James Routley as they collected a gold medal from the Maia International Acro Cup in Portugal where they triumphed in the senior Mixed Pairs competition.

And that was not all! The duo won a further prize by achieving the highest score in the seniors events and impressed the British team who were all outstanding in many different disciplines in Portugal.

Allen and Routley wanted to say a huge thanks to all involved in their triumph, particularly their coach Sarah Bateman and choreographer Kansas Bateman.

Other members of the Great Britain team also did very well, with Vada Finnier and Kenedi Cross coming fourth in their group, while Lauren Baker, Aimee Russell and Rosa Capaldi all competed well as women's groups, along with Georgia House, Luisa Capaldi and Mia Vernon.

Acrobatic gymnastics is performed in pairs or groups to music with two or three routines judged, depending on the level of competition. The scores are added together to provide the final placings.

Allen trains at Harriers Sports Acrobatic Club, who are based in Patchway Bristol.
