THORNBURY Under-15s were outstanding in defeat to a very powerful Old Patesians side in the final of the Gloucestershire U-15 Cup at Hartpury College.
Thornbury fought back from an 18-0 deficit and were on top for most of the second-half but ultimately ran out of time and went down 28-24.
Having conceded three early tries to the well-drilled Old Pats team, Thornbury skipper Charlie Powell rounded off a fine move for a try which Red Lloyd converted superbly from the touchline to start the recovery.
The Thornbury pack earned a penalty try early into the second-half, converted by Lloyd, but then Thorns were knocked back by another Old Pats try.
Wing Louis Ogilvie scored a try in a move straight from a scrum, then after Old Pats scored again, Ogilvie went over for his second try of an enthralling encounter.
The impressive Thornbury pack were on top and a try would have won the game as the seconds ticked down to the final whistle but Old Pats held out to win the cup.
