TEAMS from around Bristol and Gloucestershire flocked to Thornbury to take part in Thornbury Town’s annual junior football tournament.

Over 700 children aged seven to 13 played in the 24th edition of the tournament raising much needed funds for its youth teams.

The tournament opened with the U11 and U13 competitions on Saturday morning.

Yate United U11s scored 14 goals in total, but ended up losing out to Ashton Tigers in the main competition final.

Thornbury Town saw one of their four sides reach the consolation final, but were runners-up to Warmley Rangers.

In the U13s, Ingleside had a clean sweep with their sides winning both competitions.

The two finals were both decided on penalties with Thornbury Town and Charfield missing out in the main and consolation finals respectively.

Saturday afternoon played host to the U9s.

Imperial Reds won all of their group games without conceding a goal.

Their tournament came to an end when Imperial’s other team beat them on penalties in the semi-finals.

Thornbury Town Colts performed the best out of the home teams, finishing as consolation runners-up, losing 3-2 to Avon Athletic Colts.

The U10s kicked off proceedings on Sunday alongside the U12s.

Thornbury Town sides again finished as consolation runners up with the U10s missing out against Avon Athletic and the U12s defeated by penalties against Frampton Rangers.

The Sunday afternoon saw the U7s and 8s take part in a Festival of Football with many having their first taste of a summer football tournament.
