TOCKINGTON Manor School have had a sporting year to remember, topped by an exceptional display at the Severnside Athletics Meeting on Saturday, May 16.

The event, hosted by Beaudesert Park School, brought eight individual victories for Tockington as well as a thrilling win in the U10 Boys Relay, which was superbly won by Archie Symonds, Logan Fitzpatrick, Ben Jacobi and Jai Patel.

Jai Patel also won the 75m ‘B’ race while Ben Jacobi won the U10 75m ‘A’ race in a very close final.

These win were matched by Ellie Parker (1500m Open Girls), Alex Grocott (1500m Open and U13 100m), Alex Jacobi (U13 Boys 800m), Otis Walker (U11 Boys 800m), Logan Fitzpatrick (U10 Boys 600m) and Dalis Jones (U12 Girls Long Jump) all winning in their ‘A’ grade races.

A majority of the school’s athletes taking part achieved their personal bests and reached English Schools Athletics Association Gold standard performances, a phenomenal achievement for the school.

Over 20 of the school’s top athletes will now be competing at the Southwest Athletics Championships held at Millfield on the June 20, with every hope to quality for the National Finals held at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham later this year.

Stephen Symonds, Headmaster at Tockington Manor School, said: “Pupils, parents and staff are extremely proud of the effort and passion all our athletes displayed last Saturday.

“It’s been an outstanding year at Tockington Manor school; arguably the best in the school’s history in terms of the exceptional results achieved in sports and in the record number of academic scholarships gained too.”

Head of Sport for the school, Jonathan Jones, said: “So much has been achieved this year across all sports, it’s incredible to think that as well as the school team victories.

“We have an U13 County hockey player, an U13 National 500m champion runner, an U10 county cricketer, an U9 footballer selected by South Gloucestershire and an U13 county and South-West swimming champion.

“So far this year our children have also gained 64 English Schools Athletics Association national standard awards.

“All these accomplishments support our ethos as a school which is to enable every child ‘to be the very best that they can be’ and ‘to make the most of every moment’.
