Chipping Sodbury 241 all out beat Dumbleton 192 all out by 49 runs
CHIPPING Sodbury made it two wins in a row and inflicted a first defeat of the summer on joint leaders Dumbleton with a tremendous team display at the Ridings.
The home side, who won the toss in this West of England Premier League Gloucester Division clash, totalled 241 in their innings which was thanks to useful contributions from Dan Wright, who hit 55 before he was caught by Dumbleton’s Adrian Zagoritis.
Sodbury opener Jamie Rendell and number five Jaryd Trenoweth were both on fine form as they each scored 46 before perishing, while Nick Wake came in at number eight and added 28 before he was bowled.
The Sodbury attack then put the pressure on Dumbleton from the start of their reply and eventually secured a 49-run triumph.
Ben Waldron’s ten overs cost only 26 runs, while Wake finished his ten-over spell with 3-54.
There were two wickets apiece for Jon Toghill and Mason Poole, while Rendell also made his mark with the ball, bagging 1-17 from a miserly ten-over spell.
It was a tougher day for Sodbury Seconds who reached 227-7 at Marlborough after winning the toss thanks to the efforts of skipper Jerry Swatton (43) and Tom Makepeace (42).
But the total was comfortably within range for the home side who got over the line with two overs to spare.
Sodbury Thirds, meanwhile, secured their second win in Division Three of the Bristol and District League, brushing past Bristol Civil Service by eight wickets.
Harry Phillips (3-21), Dan Morgan (3-57), Sam Vile (2-25) and Jack Thacker (2-34) all combined to dismiss the visitors for 166.
Sodbury then chased down the target with three overs to spare, thanks to an unbeaten 67 by captain and number three batsman Chris Young.
