GLOUCESTERSHIRE women face a showdown with Somerset to see who tops the group and progresses to the John’s Trophy quarter finals after a steady performance against Warwickshire to win by 15 shots at Welford on Avon BC.
Wotton’s Cynthia Winter-Alsop was among the team but her four could not help the cause as they went down to defeat.
The three Three winning rinks from Val Ayres, Pat MacGregor, Sue Osborne and Joy Sheward who were in terrific form for a blistering 30-7 win.
Iona Bird, Jenny Stanfield Pauline Gunn and Jacky Howes produced a comprehensive display when jumping into a 9-1 lead and never looked back. Over the next 10 ends, they moved the score along to open up a 17 shot lead 20-3 before finishing with a 22-12 win.
The third winning rink came the way of Jenny Westlake, Myra Savage, Kay Gent  and Sue Latham who had to work every inch of the way in the second half to pull off a narrow 18-16 win.
Meanwhile,Winter-Alsop was joined by Sally Rolls, Gill Fry and Lyn Hamer in their match and, after having been just four behind at the 10th and 15th ends, they  could only manage another shot and crashed to a 24-11 defeat.
The showdown with Somerset takes place on July 4 and Gloucestershire need maximum points to secure the group.
