GYMNASTS from The Ridge Junior School’s team represented South Gloucestershire in the Sainsbury’s School Games and came back as champions.

Twelve hundred children from primary and secondary schools gathered at the University of Bath to compete in a variety of sports.

The Ridge qualified for the West of England final in the gymnastics competition  in two categories in the preliminary competition – Year 3 and 4 and Year 5 and 6.

The younger team competed in the morning and put in very good performances on the floor and vault.

There were no wobbles or mistakes and we were fairly confident of making it onto the podium, but the colour of the medal was in question.

After the bronze and silver medals were presented to other schools a loud cheer went up as The Ridge team were called up to collect their Gold medals, making them West of England Sainsbury School Games champions 2015.

In the afternoon, the older team took to the floor and performed controlled and precise routines and impressive vaults.  Having seen the younger girls win their competition we were feeling good about making it to the top of the podium too.

When the results were announced our girls were given third place and bronze medals.  To have all of our gymnasts leaving the competition with medals was an impressive achievement.

The Y3/4 team was Bethan Williams, Freya Lane, Kacey Naish, Grace Burney and Grace Wilson.

The Y5/6 team was Holly Stone, Ellise King, Abby Clothier, Kirsten Pearce and Evie Arpino Norvill.
