Later that afternoon, Dan Anderson continued his short and sharp off road season with the Cranham Boundary Chase.
A relatively short 3.9 miles but testing nevertheless, Anderson finished third in just over 30 minutes. While he was disappointed not to finish higher, he has been at the sharp end of the action in his recent races and with some honing of his training and race selection, he should see things come good for him.
On Sunday, the Standish Woodland Chase, organised by Stroud AC, saw Dursley's Mike Compton produce an excellent run to finish ninth in just over 65 minutes, just 29 seconds behind first Stroud AC runner Lee Christmas.
He was followed in by the evergreen Kevin Jackson, who managed to post the same time as last year.
Dave Halford nabbed third spot in front of Mark Brazier who tried to chase him down, having paced Margaret Johnson around the course.
Johnson was first Dursley woman home, and second woman was Karen Eadon, who after only a year of running, entered this tough off road course as preparation for the Bristol Half marathon.
She did very well, finishing under the two hour mark and showing no ill effects from her efforts.

The previous weekend, six Dursley runners participated in the 10K Race for Life.
All those taking part – Megan Warren, Meg Wren, Louise Beck, Sarah Kiddle, Emma Richards and Line Nash Whitlock – had only stated running seriously this years so completing the event was a great achievement.
